In an interview with Fox News, Florida governor Ron DeSantis said that he thinks President Donald Trump didn’t go far enough in his response to the violent protests that have taken place across the country in recent weeks.

DeSantis said that while he supports the president’s decision to deploy the National Guard to quell the unrest, he believes that more needs to be done in order to restore order.

“I think the president, you know, could have gone further,” DeSantis said. “He could have, you know, called in the military, as other presidents have done in the past.”

DeSantis went on to say that he believes the president should have used the Insurrection Act to deploy military troops to major cities across the country in order to put an end to the violence.

“I think if he would have done that, you would have seen a lot of these problems go away very quickly,” DeSantis said.

The Insurrection Act is a federal law that allows the president to deploy the military to quell civil unrest. It was last used in 1992 during the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles.

DeSantis’ comments come as Trump faces criticism for his handling of the protests that have erupted in the wake of the death of George Floyd, a black man who was killed in police custody in Minneapolis.

Trump has been accused of using excessive force against peaceful protesters in Washington, D.C., and of using divisive rhetoric that has only served to inflame the situation.

On Monday, Trump threatened to deploy the military to states that fail to quell the unrest, a move that was widely condemned by Democrats and even some Republicans.

DeSantis’ comments are likely to add fuel to the fire of the already-heated debate over Trump’s handling of the protests.

DeSantis said that he would have liked to see Trump take a more aggressive approach, such as shutting down all travel from China and Europe earlier. He also said that he thinks the federal government should have done more to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to states.
